South Tapanuli (ANTARA) – PT North Sumatra Hydro Energi (NSHE) is doing more than just investing in the renewable energy sector in South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel).

The company—which operates the 510 MW Batang Toru Hydropower Plant—demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting the sustainable development (SDGs 2030) of South Tapanuli under the leadership of Regent Dolly Pasaribu.

NSHE’s role involves engaging with the local wisdom of the “Hatabosi” community in Marancar District. For centuries, this community has preserved the environment—specifically the forests—across generations to safeguard the water sources that sustain local livelihoods. NSHE supports these efforts through initiatives such as establishing conservation cadres, providing agricultural processing equipment (such as milling machines), and distributing motorized cultivators (jetor).

Additionally, the company provides support for MSMEs, supplies lemongrass distillation equipment, conducts capacity-building training, and implements public health improvement programs.

“Our efforts are part of South Tapanuli’s bid to win the 2023 Integrated Sustainability Indonesia Movement (I-SIM) Award, launched by PT Surveyor Indonesia (PTSI),” said NSHE Social Communication Manager Arie Dedy on Friday. Accompanied by Vidi Rosasnarendra (Local Relationship Manager), M. Saleh Ritonga (Local Relationship Supervisor), and Octa Dharma (Communications Staff), Arie noted NSHE’s keen interest in the “Hatabosi” local wisdom initiative, which has previously won the Kalpataru award.

“Hopefully, the penta-helix collaboration involving the government, NSHE, NGOs, the media, and community elements regarding the ‘Hatabosi’ local wisdom will position South Tapanuli Regency as the top performer, based on the upcoming verification and validation by the PTSI team,” added CH Rizal Lubis, Head of the South Tapanuli Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), in a separate statement.

Muhrina A.S. Hasibuan—the I-SIM Lead Verifier and a Sustainability Expert at PT Surveyor Indonesia—along with PTSI team members Doli Syawaluddin Siregar, Finny Angkie Winoto, and Nabila Martagati Sofwan, visited South Tapanuli on Thursday (October 12) to conduct verification and validation.

Once the assessment is complete, the awards ceremony—part of the SDG Annual Conference 2023—is scheduled for November 2023. “The ‘I-SIM for Regency’ initiative is crucial as a platform for disclosing data and actions to measure SDG achievements across individual regencies in Indonesia,” Muhrina had previously stated.
