POSKOTASUMATERA.COM | SOUTH TAPANULI — Amidst transportation disruptions caused by flash floods and landslides striking parts of South Tapanuli Regency, the spirit of humanity has found a way to prevail. Even when roads were blocked by mud and bridges rendered impassable, aid continued to move forward, driven by hope.
The Batangtoru Hydropower Project team demonstrated genuine care by delivering humanitarian aid—including staple foods, medicines, and other essentials—to evacuation centers and to villages that had been isolated by the disaster. Amidst the emergency, they ensured that no resident felt alone in facing the crisis.
Challenging terrain posed a significant hurdle during the distribution process. Not all locations were accessible by motor vehicle; at certain points, supplies had to be ferried across using simple boats. On slippery, muddy paths, team members willingly hiked while carrying the aid on their backs to ensure it reached residents in need on time.
On the ground, these humanitarian efforts went beyond mere logistics distribution. The Batangtoru team also assisted residents stranded while returning from the market—helping carry groceries, guiding people across damaged roads, and providing makeshift transport to help them get home safely.
Warmth and empathy were evident in every interaction. Beneath the fatigue, smiles and gratitude shone from residents receiving a helping hand during such trying times. The aid provided was more than just material goods; it served as a source of strength and encouragement for the community to recover.
These activities were made possible through close coordination between the Batangtoru Hydropower Project, local government, the community, and volunteers. This multi-party synergy was key to ensuring that aid was delivered quickly, effectively, and sustainably to the most severely affected communities. The humanitarian aid was distributed to several villages in the Sipirok, Batangtoru, Muara Batangtoru, and Angkola Sangkunur districts. This collaborative effort is part of post-disaster recovery measures and serves as a tangible expression of solidarity and compassion for others. Amidst the disaster, the spirit of humanity shines on. Together, we take action. Together, we rebuild. (*)
