Batangtoru Hydropower Plant Supports Community Efforts to Restore Flood-Damaged School in Muara Huta Raja

POSKOTASUMATERA.COM – TAPSEL — The flood that struck Muara Huta Raja Village, Muara Batangtoru District, South Tapanuli Regency, left behind mud, debris, and exhausted residents. Yet, amidst the disaster’s aftermath, a spirit of togetherness has flourished—particularly in the effort to restore educational facilities that hold the promise of the village children’s future.

From early morning, the school and madrasah (Islamic school) grounds bustled with communal cleanup activity. Employees from the Batangtoru Hydropower Plant, local government officials, military personnel, local residents, and volunteers worked side-by-side to clear away mud deposits from classrooms, the library, and the schoolyard.

Rank and title were set aside; everyone united with a single goal: bringing the school back to life. Using simple tools like hoes, brooms, and buckets, they worked together. Mud was hauled away bit by bit, desks and chairs were cleaned, and classroom walls were wiped down until they looked bright again.

Lighthearted banter and warm greetings accompanied the work, creating a friendly atmosphere that helped dispel the fatigue and sorrow left by the disaster. For teachers and parents, this activity was about more than just cleaning a physical building; the gotong royong (mutual cooperation) restored a sense of safety and comfort, encouraging children to return to school. A clean school became a symbol of hope that the teaching and learning process could soon resume normally, despite the interruption caused by the flood.

The participation of various parties demonstrated that education is a shared responsibility. This cross-sector collaboration served as tangible proof that concern for education transcends institutional boundaries. Every ounce of effort contributed was an expression of love for the next generation during a difficult time.

Local residents were deeply moved by the support received from various quarters. Amidst limitations, social solidarity grew stronger. Gotong royong became a universal language, uniting all elements of the community in a collective recovery effort. From Muara Huta Raja, this story of solidarity serves as a reminder that disaster does not always bring despair. Amidst the mud and flood debris, hope is being rebuilt for the sake of the children’s future—a future that remains bright and filled with a passion for learning. (*)
