Sipirok | sumut24.co – PT North Sumatra Hydro Energy (NSHE), the developer of the Batangtoru Hydropower Project, has once again demonstrated its commitment to local community empowerment by hosting a three-day entrepreneurship workshop from January 21 to 23, 2024. Organized in collaboration with LKP NIA—the implementing partner for community capacity-building activities—the event included sewing training ranging from basic to skilled and advanced levels, aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial spirit within the community.
Held under the theme “Creating a Competitive, Creative, and Innovative Generation of Entrepreneurs in the Millennial Era,” the workshop was attended by dozens of participants from various villages in the Marancar and Sipirok Districts of South Tapanuli Regency.
The workshop featured inspiring speakers who shared their experiences and expertise with the participants. One engaging session, led by Drs. Ahmad Raja Nasution, M.Si., focused on identifying the potential of natural resources in the South Tapanuli region, encouraging participants to spot business opportunities within local natural wealth. Additionally, Delima Sari Lubis, MA, AWP, provided insights into the importance of business operations and household financial management as foundations for entrepreneurial success. The material presented was highly relevant to the participants’ needs, particularly for those just beginning their business journeys.
Alween Ong conducted various interactive sessions covering topics such as developing an entrepreneurial mindset, production management, and technical skills like product photography and creative video production using mobile phones. Outdoor activities were also designed to strengthen the mindset of aspiring entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, Kahairunnisa Butar-Butar, S.Pd, M.Ds., offered insights into opportunities within the fashion and apparel industry, specifically in the millennial era. This material provided fresh perspectives for participants interested in developing businesses in the creative sector. Participants responded positively to the event. Anggi Mardiani from Luat Lombang Village stated that the workshop greatly helped her understand local business opportunities. She noted that the material provided was highly practical and relevant to the community’s needs.

Meanwhile, Derianti from Batu Satahil Village gained the confidence to start a business after participating in the event. Similarly, Novita from Marancar Godang Village shared her positive impressions, noting that the workshop not only imparted knowledge but also provided a supportive environment for learning and exchanging experiences with other participants.
Arnida Sukriyani, an NSHE Social Staff member, explained that the workshop was designed to encourage the younger generation to leverage local potential into creative and sustainable business opportunities. The hope is that this activity will yield long-term benefits for the participants and the communities surrounding the Batangtoru Hydropower Project.
“It is hoped that after receiving the full three-day curriculum, aspiring entrepreneurs will be able to apply what they have learned to their own ventures, becoming local entrepreneurs who create new jobs and contribute to the development of the creative economy in their respective areas,” she said.
At the same venue, Social Supervisor Jamal Harahap conveyed a message from NSHE management: “The key to becoming a successful entrepreneur lies in the courage to demonstrate creativity and innovation, the willingness to turn challenges into opportunities, and the understanding that consistency and hard work are the fundamental assets for building and running a business.”
