TAPSEL | Jelajahnews – The Batangtoru Hydropower Plant (PLTA Batangtoru) demonstrated concrete action through a joint tree-planting event held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, within the Sipirok management area.

This joint tree-planting activity was carried out in the spirit of commemorating World Environment Day 2025, which adopted the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.”

The event was not merely ceremonial; it marked a significant milestone in the company’s phased rehabilitation efforts as it prepares to transition from the construction phase to the operational phase.

The tree planting symbolizes PLTA Batangtoru’s strong commitment to environmental conservation amidst the operations of a renewable energy project integrated with the vital ecosystem of the Batangtoru region.

Iqbal, Biodiversity Manager at PT NSHE, explained that this initiative is part of a long-term plan to preserve ecosystem functions in the areas surrounding the operation site.

“This tree planting is a small yet meaningful step in land rehabilitation that we have integrated with our biodiversity protection program. Our goal is simple: every step must yield a positive impact on the environment,” Iqbal explained.

Beyond its ecological impact, the activity also strengthened internal employee solidarity. Andi Kurnia, Human Resources & General Affairs Manager at PT NSHE, noted that the event was designed to foster a corporate culture aligned with environmental values.

“We want to instill a sense of care for nature as part of our work ethic. The team’s active involvement demonstrates that this awareness has grown into a shared culture,” he said.

Kusworo SW, Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager at PT NSHE, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the tree planting was not merely a symbolic gesture.

“This is a tangible form of the sustainability practices we consistently implement. As part of a clean energy project, we recognize the importance of maintaining the balance of nature,” Kusworo asserted. Through this initiative, the Batangtoru Hydropower Plant aims to emphasize that its presence within the Batangtoru forest is not solely about generating electricity, but also about safeguarding environmental sustainability.

By harnessing water as an energy source and nurturing the forest that sustains its natural cycle, the company strives to maintain harmony between development and environmental conservation.

This tree-planting activity marks just the beginning of a series of major, ongoing efforts.

The Batangtoru Hydropower Plant demonstrates that building an energy future does not require destroying nature; instead, it is possible to grow in harmony with it. (*)
