SOUTH TAPANULI – PT North Sumatra Hydro Energy (NSHE), the owner of the Batang Toru Hydropower Plant (PLTA), conducted computer training for vocational high school (SMK) students in Marancar District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.
The initiative, themed “Education Quality Improvement Program Towards Smart, Skilled, and Dignified Human Resources,” was a collaborative effort between PT NSHE, the North Sumatra Education Office Branch, and the SL Komputer Training Institute, held from February to March 2023.
In his remarks, Soeseno Hendro, Communications Supervisor at PT NSHE, noted that the digital era has been underway for five to ten years, with digital systems now integral to many activities, including job hunting.
“This means that basic computer skills have become an essential capability to possess. This is the foundation upon which PT NSHE organized this activity,” said Soeseno Hendro at the SMK Negeri 1 Marancar hall during the training’s closing ceremony on Thursday (March 16, 2023).
The program aims to equip students—the next generation—with crucial skills for the future.
Addressing the Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Marancar, representatives from the North Sumatra Education Office Branch, the Marancar District Head, teachers, staff, and students, Soeseno Hendro stated that PT NSHE remains committed to making positive contributions to the development of communities surrounding the Batang Toru Hydropower Plant.
Afwan Tarihoran Harahap, Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Marancar, expressed his gratitude to PT NSHE for conducting the computer training at his school and expressed hope that the established partnership would continue through future training programs.
Marancar District Head Rosnanni Pasaribu echoed these sentiments, expressing deep appreciation for PT NSHE’s initiative in supporting the progress of residents living near the Batang Toru Hydropower project, particularly within Marancar District. “This training was not specifically requested, yet PT NSHE provided it for our children. We hope the knowledge gained from this computer training can be further developed,” stated Rosnanni Pasaribu before dozens of students from SMK N 1 Marancar.
Meanwhile, computer instructor Nurlaila noted that the training covered office administration programs and that the students had successfully mastered the material.
“They are now able to create letters, letterheads, brochures, tabulated documents, and more,” Nurlaila concluded.
For context, PT NSHE has been conducting this computer training program since 2022. During the initial period in October 2022, training was provided to students from SMP Negeri 1 Marancar (13 students), SMP Negeri 2 Marancar (13 students), MTs Assyukriyah (7 students), and MTs Darul Akhiroh (7 students).
In the February–March 2023 period, training was provided to 20 students from SMK Negeri 1 Marancar and 22 students from SMP Negeri 8 Sipirok.
Before concluding the session, A. Benny Damanik—representing the North Sumatra Education Agency Branch—expressed his admiration for the achievements of the dozens of 10th-grade students from SMK Negeri 1 Marancar who participated in the training; they had become proficient in using computers and were ready to have their skills tested.
A. Benny Damanik encouraged the participating students to continue practicing and not to become complacent with the knowledge they had acquired so far.
He also expressed his deepest appreciation to PT NSHE for organizing the program, noting his gratitude for a computer training initiative that was both highly effective and eagerly awaited by the schools.
